Election, Stress and Anxiety

Elections spike stress and anxiety.

This campaign season has been almost entirely unavoidable—and it turns out that’s true inside therapists’ offices, too.  The American Psychological Association (APA) did a survey that found 52% of American adults say the 2016 election is a somewhat or very significant—source of stress in their lives. We are bombarded with negativity and harshness. Although it is not directly related to us, it is effecting us both energetically and holistically.

We can’t avoid it  – Election stress has become exacerbated by arguments, stories into social media, from family gatherings to work place that has heighten concern and frustration, ranging from factual to hostile or even inflammatory just to prove a point.

Stress is exhausting for the body and for the mind.

Take a moment to ponder. Does all of what is happening out there worth what you are doing to your own health? Do you think they really care what happens to you and your loved ones when your heart beats and causes your blood vessels to constrict and raise your blood pressure?
  • What about when the rush of hormones, rapid breathing, and increased heart rate upsets your digestive system, have heartburn or effects your ulcer flareup?
  • Stress can affect the way food moves through your body, leading to diarrhea or constipation thus, creating IBS.
  • For women, stress can affect the menstrual cycle. Under stress, your muscles tense up to protect themselves from injury and your muscles don’t get the chance to relax. Tight muscles cause headaches, back and shoulder pain, and body aches.
Stress and anxiety-related conditions are the most common psychological afflictions of man and account for a major percentage of initial complaints to health practitioners. Hypnosis is one of they best remedies to reduce stress. Accept what is and know that at the end, it’ll all work out for the best.
